An initiative of International Men’s Day Mackay Inc (IMDMI) and Mackay Art Society
The theme for the show and subject for the artists is the second pillar of International Men’s Day, ‘Celebrate men’s positive contributions to society’.
The artwork must be family-friendly and works will be judged by the ability of the work to communicate the theme and the artwork artistic style / work itself.
There is a separate award for a fourth section, (Mackay landscape). This is an artwork that does not comply with the theme.
All submitted entries will be displayed at the Jubilee Community Centre from 21 – 27 September 24.

Conditions of Entry
1. Entry Fee is $10.00 per artwork (non refundable).
2. No more than two works per artist. The artist is to be a permanent resident living within the Mackay Regional Council area, 16 years old or above. Works must be original unaided from the entrant and produced in the last 6 months. This show is open to all artists, male and female.
3. The Entry Form together with payment Is to be received by IMDMI NLT Fri 13 Sep 24. Payment is to be made by Direct Deposit only to BSB 654000 A/C 64151939
4. Appropriately labelled artwork must be received by Thu 19 Sep 2024.
All works will be reviewed for appropriate content and displayed at the JCC. Artworks can be offered for sale during the show. Sale price and artists contact details must accompany the work and be affixed to the bottom right corner of the work. IMDMI will take 10% commission of the sale price.
5. All works must be original unaided work by the entrant and, except for Category Four, produced specifically within the theme. Works that have won previous awards are not eligible. The winning entry judged ‘Best at Show’ is to be donated to IMDMI to be auctioned off at the IMD24 Celebratory breakfast on Tues 19 Nov 2024.
6. International Men’s Day Mackay Inc (IMDMI) reserves the right to reproduce any works for advertising, promotion, or archival purposes for the awards.
7. IMDMI will exercise all due care and attention when exhibiting and handling the works but works will always be at the risk of the entrant. No liability will be accepted by IMDMI whether in transit or on exhibition.
8. Maximum dimensions of works shall be 76cm wide and 102cm high, excluding frames. Works including Frames should be less than 84cm wide and 110cm high. All entries must be suitably prepared for display with “D” rings & wire securely attached 10cm from top of the frame.
9. All works should be labelled on the back of work with Artist’s name, title of work, medium and contact details. All works will be exhibited at the JCC unless notified.
10. Each piece of work shall be accompanied by an A5 piece of paper with the artist’s name, title of the work, the artwork medium and a description of the artwork in relation to the exhibition theme 3 – 4 sentences long. This is to be displayed alongside the artwork. The didactic shall be printed on white paper in portrait view. Text font shall be Calibri, font size. Please refer to didactic label template.
11. Entrants are entirely responsible for dropping their works off at and collecting from the JCC.
12. No works are to be removed during the show period.
13. All works will be viewed by the judges and preview panel and displayed in JCC. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The winner of a section is precluded from winning in any other section.
IMDMI is the umbrella organisation that provides funds for Shed Happens Mackay. It also organises celebrations of International Men’s Day annually on or near 19 November. This art show is an initiative of IMDMI as is the award of Mackay Man Of The Year for which nominations will be called for in September also. SHED Happen Mackay provides a safe non threatening environment for men to tell their stories, the good, bad, happy and sad. The ethos of Shed Happens is ENCOURAGEMENT. As our founder often said, “No bloke ever went backward with encouragement.”
